Data management section

An assessment of the data management section is part of the external review process for each project proposal. As a PhD candidate, you have to describe and declare in your project proposal how you will manage research data, in adherence to the WUR data policy. In the data management section of the WGS project proposal template you outline the following:

  • Data storage: both during and after your project.
  • Data rightsholder(s): who is/are the rightsholder(s) to the data produced or external data used for your project.
  • Data sharing: agreement on who will have access to and use the (un)published data.
  • Data management: who will be responsible for the data management after finishing your PhD. This section may include references to the more detailed data management plan that PhDs are required to write (see below) and can also refer to the data management protocol (i.e. at the level of a research group).

Project proposal templates per WGS

The PhD project proposal template, for each Graduate School, can be found below:

  • Experimental Plant Sciences (EPS) – template
  • Production Ecology & Resource Conservation (PE&RC) – template
  • Biobased, Biomolecular, Food and Nutrition Sciences (VLAG) – template
  • Wageningen School of Social Sciences (WASS) – template
  • Wageningen Institute of Animal Sciences (WIAS) – template
  • Wageningen Institute for Environment and Climate Research (WIMEK) – template

Data management plan

In addition to the data management section in your proposal, you must write a data management plan within six months of starting your PhD. Your data management plan needs to be submitted to Hora Finita, the WUR PhD registration system. For more information on writing a data management plan, see this knowledge article.
